Akosakh Tomas is a 41-year-old inmate born in Ghana. He gained a wide recognition for developing football in maximum security prison, not far from the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Tomas used to be a professional football player before being convicted in 2009.
He has been seized by the local police with a big lot of drugs, right in the centre of Almaty. The court has sentenced Tomas to 12 years of imprisonment and deprivation of property.
After appearing behind the bars, Tomas created several teams, consisting of inmates. In the regional competition between jails, Tomas-trained team smashed their opponents 9:1.
Speaking about his life in the maximum security Kazakh jail Tomas comments about food: "There're no bananas, but we have more than enough meat, potatoes. Carrots and apples are the source of vitamins. They give us fish from time to time, very delicious. And also we have lots of porridge. Me and my team need meat, as lots of calories, protein are gained from it."
A mother and a child await Tomas back home in Ghana. However, they will not be able to see each other for a long-long time.
Nevertheless, Tomas tries to be optimistic and has no time to be bored: on October 3 a rematch with his bitter rivals from another jail is scheduled.
