Court Remands Islamic Singer, Ibrahim Labaika in Prison for beating up Unilorin Female student

According to Ekwara.com Luck today ran out on popular Ilorin Islamic musician, Alhaji Ibrahim Labeaka, as an Ilorin Upper Area Court remanded him in Oke Kura maximum prison, Ilorin, over allegations of causing grievous bodily injury on a female student of the University of Ilorin, last week.
Mr. Labaika was arraigned before an Area Court Judge, Mallam Abdulhamid Mohammed, alongside his wife, Mrs. Zeenat Ibrahim, one Ahmed and four others said to be at large.
In a Criminal Direct Complaint filed from the law firm of I. K. Imam Eleshinla & Co. on behalf of the Complainant, one Miss Aleem Suliyat, Mr. Labaika and the other Accused Persons were charged with criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation contrary to sections 97, 268, 247 and 397 of the Penal Code Law.
In the direct complaint, a copy of which was sighted by E-kwara.com, the lawyer to the accused person, Barrister Ahmed Alawaye, stated that ‘on the 21st May, 2014, the complainant, Aleem Suliyat, being a student of University of Ilorin and a tenant of the 1st Accused Person (Labaika) was washing her cloth in the house, when the 2nd Accused Person, who is also the 1st Accused Person’s wife, attacked her on the ground that she was not washing in a designated place.”
The complaint went further to state that Alhaji Ibrahim Labaika, in anger, mobilized thugs to the scene of the fracas and beat up Miss Aleem to stupor.

“That the 1st Accused Person, 3rd Accused Person and others whose names are unknown, dragged the complainant on the floor and forcefully bundled her inside the 1st Accused Person’s car, a Toyota Sequoia V8 jeep.”
“That the accused persons have been threatening to further deal with the Complainant when sighted.”
On the strength of this complaint, Mr. Labaika was arrested on Friday. This was after having stood trial for yet another criminal case brought against him by the Kwara State Police Command. Mr. Labaika was granted bail in the previous case.
But for the urgent intervention of some well-meaning lawyers, Mr. Labaika would have spent last week weekend in prison. But he was not so lucky today, as the court remanded him in prison until the next adjourned date, 29th May, 2014. All spirited attempt by Labaika’s lawyer, Mr. Tunde Falola, to get him some reprieve on the strength of personal recognition proved abortive.
This medium learnt very reliably that Mr. Labaika’s victim, Miss Aleem, has since been transferred to an hospital in Oshogbo, Osun state for further treatment.
A family source said Miss Aleem is being treated for fractured bones in the scull in Topa Private Hospital, Osogbo.
She is also said to have lost her phone and other personal belongings during the fight.
