This picture shows a mans’ hand which has unusually large fingers, this is down toa birth defect in which toes or fingers are abnormally large, however sometimes an entire limb may be enlarged. This is known as “Macrodactyly” – locallised gigantism is a condition in which a certain part of the body acquires a larger than normal size due to excessive growth of the anatomical structures or abnormal accumulation of substances.
How to treat it?Most of the time surgery is the answer as this defect is down to alot of layers of tissue building up, and so the only way to treat it would be to go under the knife and have it removed. It is rare that even after surgery the fingers or toes move perfectly, so the person will struggle to pick up things or maybe even to walk.
