Did You Know That 0 Rupees Banknote Exist in India?
A
zero rupee note has been created by a non-governmental organization
(NGO), known as 5th Pillar, in India, as a mean of helping to fight
systemic corruption at various levels.
Over
1.3 million pieces of such notes, which resemble the original 50 rupee
banknote of India, have been distributed among the residents and soon
became very popular.
The
notes are paid in protest by angry citizens to government functionaries
who solicit bribes in return for services which are supposed to be
free
.
The
NGO urges the Hindus to pay give bribes to the officials only with such
notes. Zero-value money is often handed over to policemen or various
clerks who try to extort the bribe for providing some ‘services’ of for
cancelling the fine, for example.
The
new Naira notes are coming before the end of September. Maybe we still
have time to ask the CBN to create a Zero Naira Note, for the same
purposes?!
What do you think?
